Understanding the end-user is key to producing an affective project. This statement holds true for our 220sqm penthouse office proposal. Armstrong is an international gaming company, which has slowly grown over recent years, establishing a base in Malta and subsequently expanding locally. Both as a service provider and as part of the company culture, socialising and nurturing meaningful relationships with its clients is imperative. In taking an inherently residential layout, spaces were strategically modified to cater for multi-faceted work activities while facilitating effortless social interactions for this ever-growing team.
A captivating green wall and oak cladding induces powerful yet comforting tones while concealing the kitchen from the entrance hall come activity area, creating a provoking backdrop while screening any views from the unsuspecting client. Offering only a glimpse into the awaiting open plan work space, the entrance leads onto an alternative area which houses the board room and two ephemeral work spaces for periodic work.
An adjustable partition stands subtly between the two-zone, open plan work space. Its base doubling up as a planter, this minimal partition supplies electrical services to the desk space while sliding panels provide occasional visual privacy, designating a flexible cosy space where one can satisfy an array of tasks, including taking a conference call or simply unwinding with colleagues through a gaming console.
The desk space, by contrast, is categorically designed as a space to provide focus and concentration with adjustable desks, ergonomic chairs and a combination of sheer curtains and profile lights to achieve functional task lighting. This space sits at the southwest corner of the property, giving this predominantly white assemblage a 180-degree backdrop of sky, sea, rooftop views and access to a private terrace perfect for social events in the blissful Maltese sun.
